John Graham (1782-1855)
John Graham (J was born 1.Oct.1782 in Pennslyvania to parents James Graham and Mary Buffington. 1) He died on 26.July.1855 and is buried in Grahamsville Cemetery in Jackson, OH. 2)
John probably came from Pennslyvania to Ohio along with his parents sometime before 1800. 3) He married Catherine Rickabaugh on 2.Jan.1810 in Scioto, Jackson, OH. 4) During the war of 1812, he served in the Ohio Militia under Capt. William Mumm. Following this, he lived in Franklin Township, Jackson County, OH and may have been involved in the local enterprise of making salt as well as being a farmer. 5) In 1817 John Graham became the first official settler in Scioto Township, Jackson County, OH, having gained title from the Government Land office for “the southeast half of the southwest quarter of section 35). He was soon joined by other settlers; by 1820 Scioto Township had approximately 60 households, including that of JG's father James Graham. 6) During the 1830s, three of his sons (John, Felix, Jehiel) worked at the Clinton Furnace in nearby Scioto County. 7) John Graham continued to live in Scioto Township until his death in 1855.
